To: This Week Sent: Saturday, May 28, 2005 6:30 PM Week 2 - Jerusalem Lodge Splits a Pair
The second week of the season found Jerusalem Lodge No. 31 A.F.&A.M. Bantam boys baseball team splitting a pair of games at local parks. Tuesday at Longworth Park losing 12 - 2 to a well balanced and strong pitching team sponsored by Johnson Recreational. The boys in blue couldn't get a hit that night until the 5th and that was too late, for the game was called when the gap got to ten in the bottom of the inning. Strong pitching and good defence duelled for three innings as the score remained close but in the bottom of the fourth the wheels fell off as Johnson Recreational scored 6. There were a couple of defensive gems served up by Jerusalem Lodge and special mention goes to Mitchell Johnson, a Peewee call up, who made the catch of the game on a foul pop fly just off of 3rd base, tumbling over a spectator in a lawn chair and squeezing the ball for what should have been an out. "Out of Play!" ruled Umpie when the ball crossed a foot over the line. It was just one of those nights for the boys in blue. On Thursday back at Pennfound Park, Cassidy and Company from Ajax payed a visit. Pitching was the contrast in this game as Jordan Gaskin started and went three strong innings overwhelming the visitors. Ajax had trouble finding the strike zone and Jerusalem Lodge found it tough to get out of their batting slump with most of the 23 - 3 win a result of un-earned runs scored. Base on balls ruled most of the offence for the boys in blue, but there were a couple of deep doubles smacked to the fence, one each by Dylan Burnham and Jordan Gaskin who put his mark all over this win. Scott Pynn mopped up for the save and pitched very well over both games played this week. Next home game, Johnson Recreational pays a visit to Pennfound Park on Thursday June 9th and Jerusalem lodge is hoping to rebound and play them much tougher. In between are three games away which see the boys in blue travelling to Oshawa and Pickering completing their first swing of games against the Durham West teams. Courtice Funeral Chapel hosted Jerusalem Lodge last night at Pennfound Park and we'll have that game for you next week. Come out and catch a game!
