Jerusalem Lodge Runs Streak to Three at the Break

Pennfound Park: Jerusalem Lodge No. 31 A.F.&A.M. bantam boys baseball team reached the graduation break on a three game win streak and their season record now stands at 6 wins and 3 losses.

Travelling to Amberlea Park in Pickering Village, the boys in blue played Pickering 2 on a damp evening where the rains held off long enough to play a six inning, hold the fort 10 - 9 win. Jerusalem Lodge jumped to a 4 - 1 lead in the top of the Second and tried to coast against the local squad whose record stood at 0 wins and 5 loses. Pickering gave the boys in blue all they could handle this evening and proceeded to rebound to a 6 - 4 lead after three innings. There was just enough game in Jerusalem Lodge's eight players and one call-up from Peewee to prevail as the boys in blue answered back with six straight runs through the next three innings. Eric Whalley lead the offence with three singles and two RBI's, scoring twice and played an overall good game facing Bantam aged boys for the first time. Also scoring twice were Chris Singh and Will Zega as the boys in blue brought their bats to work this night.

The games not over until the home team's last bat and Pickering 2 scored three as Jerusalem Lodge tried to find that last out to end the game. With the tying and winning runs on base, Jordan Gaskin dug a little deeper and served up a ground ball out and a strike out to end the game. Final score: Jerusalem Lodge 10, Pickering 2 - 9.

Casey Elliott and Scott Pynn performed well in the Two position as Dylan Burnham attended his graduation. Jeff Walsh pitched well over the first three innings and helped his cause with a double and a single, scoring once.

Returning to Pennfound Park, the friendly confines of home proved to be too much for a spunky crew from Ajax 2 sponsored by Boyer Pontiac Buick.

Jerusalem Lodge started off slow as a gentle rain fell on the field to start the game but failed to dampen anyone's spirits through to when it stopped part way into the second inning. The soggy gravel pit played soft on the ground as the boys in blue struggled to get their bats going, trailing 3 - 2 through four innings. Strong pitching and good defence from the short handed Boyer crew helped the visitors start but once Jerusalem Lodge faced the Boyer bullpen the game turned around. Jeff Walsh reached the right field fence on a double and scored with Chris Singh, Casey Elliott and Matthew Jubb each following him home as the boys in blue found their rhythm. Singh and Dylan Burnham each scored twice with the rest of the runs scored scattered across the line up. Time was called after six innings complete with Jerusalem Lodge holding a 9 - 3 lead.

There are four games to play to close out the season and three are at Pennfound Park in Courtice: Tuesday July 5th, Thursday July 7th and Thursday July 14... all games begin at 6:30 pm.
