Penfound Park (Courtice)
Jerusalem Lodge No. 31 A.F.&A.M. Bantam boys baseball team came from behind to defeat Courtice Funeral Chapel 8 - 7 in a wonderfully entertaining come from behind victory to raise their season record to 4 wins, 7 loses.
Cody Booth had player of the game honours with a single, triple and an in-the-park home run scoring the winning run. The boys in blue fell behind early and trailed 7 - 4 to open the fourth.
Base on balls ruled most of the offence for Courtice Funeral while the boys in blue threw the ball away on a couple of pick-off attempts to allow the un-earned runs. Bend but don't break baseball is the game played on the gravel pit known as Penfound Park and the boys in blue never lost their spirit.
With Booth on the mound for the final two innings, the defence stepped up to stop the bleeding of six un-earned runs. The skies threatened but the storm held off long enough to allow play to continue for the comeback win. Cody Smith and Andrew Lynch each made tough outs on line drives to help tighten up the defence while Jake Van Roessell scampered home three times to lead the scoring. Booth and Lynch scored twice and Robert Matheson came home as well before the game was called for curfew.
