Message From the East - MAY 2007

Greetings Brethren:

I am sitting in the backyard enjoying the warmth of the sun, a cool breeze and the familiar smell of barbeque in the air. I can hear the kids playing in the field and the laughter of neighbors enjoying the afternoon. My son came by and said “Dad, do you want another beer?”

Our April meeting was packed with good Ole Jerusalem Lodge boys! Due to the large attendance we took a brief moment after the lodge opened to do a meet and greet. It was sure great to see all the brethren shaking hands and saying hello. It was also wonderful to see Bro. Nicolay Stepanow back in lodge too! The work of the evening witnessed the passing of Bro. Kevin Gilroy to the Second Degree. For a man that does not relish a public speaking environment, Bro. Gilroy performed admirably. His regular attendance at practice and with the help of Bro. Robert Kennedy (mentor) have aided to his success of the evening. Bro. Kevin Gilroy, great work! We received a report on the Music Bursary given by V. W. Bro. Jack Hartwell (committee chair). As everyone may know, we are consolidating our efforts to give 1 bursary to a deserving student pursuing music as a major. The bursary has been increased to $1,000. Many thanks are to be given to the Brethren who voted in favor for this and it is a testament to our faith in V. W. Bro. Jack Hartwell that he will oversee this project to its implementation for 2008.

The month of May is very busy my Brethren. On May 5th Bowmanville will be celebrating Maple Fest. As usual we will have an open house. W. Bro. Ted Denny is working on a schedule of participants who will be available for lodge tours. Our very own Bro. Sean Howard will be the candidate for the evening at Orono Lodge No. 325 Official Visit on May 10, 2007. Bro. Howard will be passed to the Second Degree. Let’s meet in Orono and support Bro. Howard.  May 9, 2007 will be our regular meeting that we perform an Initiation on Mr. Michael Naugle. Mr. Naugle is very keen to join our Fraternity. Let’s fill those Jerusalem Lodge benches for the evening and give him a night that won’t be forgotten! May 16, 2007 will be the Fraternal Visit to William James Dunlop Lodge in Peterborough. We will be conferring a Second Degree on available candidates. My Brethren as you have read, May is a busy month. There our plenty of activities available, grab a friend and lets do some visiting! For our Brethren who are shut-in may the MH keep you safe in his loving hands.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
W. Bro. Donald Page
