Message From the East - MAR 2008

Brethren:

Last Month saw the Father and Son team of Henry & Jacob Kroon, in a Double Second. Lodge was well attended; and the Kroon’s conducted themselves in an exemplary fashion. It was obvious that they were well prepared.

This month is our Official Visit. For those of you who are new to Freemasonry; this is the month that our Lodge’s performance is examined by the (DDGM) District Deputy Grand Master. Our DDGM, R.W.Bro. Iain L. Oliver, & the District Secretary W.Bro. David Atkinson, will be checking: to see that our Books are in order, that our Minutes are recorded correctly, that our Orders Of Business are conducted correctly. They will be paying attention to the performance of our Officers & Brethren doing work, in order to Guard the Landmarks against Encroachment. I look forward to seeing some of our new Officers at work; and I trust everyone will be Squaring Those Corners.

This month we will start Lodge at 6:00pm and Call Off for the purpose of a banquet at 6:30pm. After the banquet, we will Call On and bring in our Guests & our DDGM. Our Work this month will be the F.C. Degree on Bro. Andrew Lyng. I am looking forward to seeing the side benches filled, for what I expect to be a well performed Degree on an excellent candidate.

Here, I would like to turn my attention to the topic of Freemasonry & Visitation. Over the last few months, I have tried to attend as many Lodge Meetings as possible. I have to admit that, I have missed a few meetings do to personal business; but, when I have made it to Meetings I have always been made to feel welcome, wherever I have gone. For new members; seeing other Lodges perform is a great way to fill in the parts of your Degrees that may have passed by in a bit of a blur. For Officers; Visitation helps to prepare you for work that you have coming up. Regardless of how long you have been a Freemason, Regardless of whether you are Going Through The Chairs, or sitting on the Side Benches, Regardless of whether you attend your Home Lodge regularly, or infrequently; Visitation is always a way to meet & develop friendships, and to find out what is going on in Ontario District.

Members of Jerusalem Lodge should take note that they are always welcome to attend our Committee of General Purpose, to find out what is going on in Your Home Lodge, Ontario District, & Freemasonry in general.

Please note that our Monday Night Practices are put on for the express benefit of ALL Lodge Members. I’m sure you have all heard someone say; “You will get out of Masonry no more than that which you put into it”. Long time members bring their knowledge & experience. Newer members are given the chance to learn what Freemasonry is all about. All members attending practices have the opportunity to renew acquaintances & make friendships.

And finally, if you have a desire to do some Work in Lodge; Let the Master know what pieces of work you are interested in. Every Brother should have the opportunity to participate & to feel that they are contributing to their Lodge & their District.

Best Fraternal Regards
W.Bro. John Wheat
